(IsraelNN.com) Reports from Lebanon claim that the IDF reservists kidnapped last year were alive at the time and abducted by Hizbullah terrorists using weapons abandoned by the IDF during the hasty 2000 withdrawal.

According to Maariv, an investigation has found that the terrorists who captured IDF reservists Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser were using equipment that was left behind when the IDF retreated from Lebanon in 2000.

The retreat was conducted hastily during the night at the orders of then-Prime Minister Ehud Barak. "The Barak government's irresponsible withdrawal from Lebanon brought Hizbullah to the fence, paved the way for Nasrallah and caused the problems in Lebanon in 2006," former Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said at a Tuesday ceremony marking a year since the Second Lebanon War.

Arabs, Leftists Plan 'March of Return' for Independence Day

On the day most Israelis will be celebrating the 59th Yom Ha'atzmaut, Independence Day, some Arab and left-wing Jewish citizens will march against the foundation of the state.

planning to hold its tenth annual Procession of Return. The march, which last year drew hundreds of participants, is set to take place Tuesday, April 24, in the village of Al-Lajjun, adjacent to the northern Arab-Israeli city of Umm Al-Fahm. ADRID was established with the goal of returning Arabs to the houses and villages they or their families left during and after the 1948 War of Independence.

In the 2006 Procession of Return, Arab and left-wing marchers waved PLO flags and black flags "as a clear and decisive statement in the face of the Independence Day celebrations across other Jewish areas of the country," according to Ido Tzvieli, writing in the website of the Israel-based Jewish-Arab Zochrot organization. Zochrot, which will be taking part in the procession in Al-Lajjun, is dedicated to promoting the Arab view of the establishment of the State of Israel as a "day of catastrophe" (Al-Nakba).

Leading Middle East researchers, however, note statements on the issue made by Arab leaders and spokespeople (Below) during and after the War of Independence, indicating that Arabs in the land of Israel mostly fled due to Arab propaganda. The Arab leadership promoted libelous accusations against the Jews of Israel and warned Arab villagers to make way for conquering Arab armies.

For example, the New York-based Lebanese daily Al-Hoda wrote that in 1948, Arab League secretary Azzam Pasha "assured the Arab peoples that the occupation of Palestine and of Tel Aviv would be as simple as a military promenade.... Brotherly advice was given to the Arabs of Palestine to leave their land, homes and property, and to stay temporarily in neighbouring fraternal states."

Also during the War of Independence, hundreds of Jews were forced to abandon towns and communities that were conquered by Jordanian, Egyptian and other Arab forces, such as in Jerusalem, Gaza, Hevron and other parts of Judea and Samaria. after the 1967 Six Day War, when Israeli forces returned to the areas in question. In addition, in the aftermath of the War of Independence, acts of official and unofficial retaliation against Jewish communities in Arab countries forced upwards of 700,000 Jews to flee their homes and emigrate to Israel and the West, in most cases leaving their possessions behind.

According to ADRID Director Daoud Bader, the decision to hold the current march in Al-Lajjun was due to more recent events. The village's residents requested the procession take place there in light of a recent Nazareth District Court decision affirming a 1953 eminent domain expropriation of local properties. The 200 dunams (about 50 acres) of land acquired by the state at the time was transferred to Mekorot, the national water carrier, for a regional installation.

Pres. Bush announced the offensive to pursue EVIL after the 9/11 attack without identifying Islam as being the common denominator in world terrorism. Now "fundamentalist" Islam is blamed, not Islam itself, so as not to offend Islamic oil producers. In fact, even Islamic regimes are endangered by Islamic extremists and they try to uproot them as well. It is a waste of time though, since there will always be muftis around who would lead their followers to execute exactly what the Koran is really about, namely the honor of martyrdom, conquering the world by force and to terrorize infidels.


The problem therefore lies with Islam itself due to the bloodthirstiness of its god, Allah. The only way to deal with it is to uproot it by destroying its religious objects, like Josiah did, followed by leading the people to serve the God who can really save and preserve them.

"Their God," who identified himself to Moses as "I Am," took Abram's family out of Babylon, Satan's stronghold and therefore the birthplace of all Satanic idle worshiping "mystery" religions, to form a new nation for himself, the Hebrews, in Canaan. However, as in the days of the kings of Israel, the gods of Babylon have been trying to establish themselves in Israel and the rest of the world, as we now have with Allah and his phallic towers (minarets - just another version of Babylonian obelisks) and domed roof structures, typical of a fertility gods, plus moon symbols since Allah is a moon god.

The power of Islam in Israel lies in its control of Israel's God's Temple Mount. That enables him to have mosques there, of which the Dome of the Rock, that is central in the logos of most Islamic organizations in Israel - associated with swords and guns to reflect the inherent violence in Islam.

It is definitely a spiritual principle in Israel that the party that controls the Temple Mount basically controls the land and has legitimate rights in the land. Destruction of their source of power and legitimacy will therefore immediately deligitimize Allah's people's claims of rights and land ownership. If they are altogether banned from the Temple Mount, unless they go up there to honor Israel's God, as is expected from foreigners in the land, they would not even have a reason to be in the land. Not having this trophy in Israel will discredit Allah and cause his people to rethink their traditional adherence to him without questioning his bloodthirstiness and the validity of his claims and commands.

In his incitement of the Arabs, Yaser Arafat came up with the slogan, "A million martyrs marching to Jerusalem!" This will actually follow, accompanied by a lot of shooting, should the mosques on the Temple Mount be damaged or destroyed and the Jews are held responsible and/or refuse to allow them to restore their mosques. Neighboring Moslem nations will probably also join in, but the damage to Allah's reputation will cause them all not to be unquestioning martyrs for him anymore. All that would then be needed to neutralize Allah completely would be a nuclear attack on the Kabah in Mecca that would prevent pilgrimages until they don't matter anymore.

Why not do it, in view of the fact that it will basically bring an end to terrorism in the world and that this sort of delegitimizing is exactly what Satan is trying to do to the God of Israel? All he needs to do is to take Israel's land from them, that he had promised would be theirs for eternity. or eradicate the Jews to prove that he couldn't preserve them as a nation eternally as he'd said he would.

Please pray above all for the Christian Arabs in South Lebanon. They were Israel's allies in the war against the PLO (Arafat's terrorists) and Hizb'Allah. Then, however, Ehud Barak betrayed them with his cowardly withdrawal in 1982 that left them to be persecuted by the Hizb'Allah & the PLO. Some opted for asylum in Israel, but many went back after a while because of the low priority their well-being had been for the Israeli government - something like Arial Sharon's victims, the evicted settlers. Now it seems that the Hizb'Allah is purposely trying to block the Christians from escaping the bombing of their villages and homes -- that are being used as missile silos.

The Untold StoRY: Galilee Arabs under Hizb'Allah fire

HAIFA - A week into the current shooting war with Hizb'Allah, little attention had been paid to the Arab communities of northern Israel. They make up half of the one million residents of the Galilee and Haifa areas forced to flee or hunker down in bomb shelters under the barrage of Katyusha rockets. But few outside Israel knew they were also being targeted? that is until a rocket struck the landmark Christian town of Nazareth and killed two young brothers from an Arab Orthodox family, aged 3 and 7.

"The missiles have been hitting the Arab villages too," Dr. Hani Shehadeh told The Christian Edition from his home just four miles south of the Lebanese border. "As Bibi Netanyahu told the Knesset the other day, a Katyusha doesn't have eyes to see whether it's a Jew or an Arab."

Shehadeh, who pastors an Evangelical congregation, just sent an open letter to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, calling him "a man of peace" and assuring that Arab Christians in the Galilee are praying for Israel's leaders in this crisis.

"I am writing while my home and church building are being shaken by the rockets, yet we are not afraid, for we believe in the protecting hand of the Lord of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob," he wrote. "We are aware of the difficulties that you are facing mostly caused by the Islamic extremists."

"This war is not about politics as much as spiritual warfare," he told The Christian Edition. "We believe the God of Israel is going to watch over this nation."

Like so many other Galilee Arabs, he also has relatives in Lebanon that he worries about. "My Granny is Lebanese and we all have family there. Of course we pray they're all safe."

In Haifa, the Hebrew-speaking congregation Beit Eliyahu has been taking in elderly neighbors without bomb shelters. Shmuel Aweida, the congregation's Arab pastor, narrowly missed a rocket that landed on the highway some 50 yards in front of his car.

Aweida notes the rare agreement across the country on the necessity of this war. "We can't remember the last time there was such a consensus in the Israeli society and leadership on a war as in this case. Hizbullah is like a deadly tumor that has to be removed."

Not all Galilee Arabs are as patriotic. Many complain that there are no shelters or air raid sirens in Arab villages, and no materials in Arabic instructing them on what to do in emergencies.

"Sakhnin has no bomb shelters, and I think this is the case for 98 percent of the Arab villages in the north," Sakhnin resident Laithi G'naim told The Jerusalem Post.

There are also reports that some local Arabs have been seen on rooftops quietly cheering when Katyushas land in nearby communities.

Also forgotten in this war are the over 2,000 South Lebanese refugees still living in the Galilee who fled their homes six years ago As they weather Hizbullah attacks on northern Israel, friends and famil back home face Israel's counter-attacks.

"Part of me lives in Israel. Let's say it's my second country," said ex- SLA officer Nabih Abou Raseh from his home in Ma'alot along the border. "The other lives in Lebanon. I hurt on both sides."

It hasn't been easy watching an army ravage his homeland, but he still wants the IDF to press ahead. "It hurts me when I see my country falling apart? but the price that we're paying in northern Israel and in southern Lebanon is less than the price if we don't do anything and Hizbullah continues to strengthen itself," he said.

Some South Lebanese refugees are also living in shelters provided by Evangelical congregations like Beit Yedidya, in Nahariya. Relatives calling from south Lebanon say Hizbullah militiamen are taking over Christian homes to hide rockets and fire them at Israel.

If Israel's military objective of weakening Hizbullah to the point it can be disarmed is met, the south Lebanese refugees may soon be able to finally go home in peace.

Think now before it's too late

For five years, Giora Eiland was the most important person on the command bridge of the Israeli ship of state. Both as head of the Israel Defense Forces' Operations Directorate and as head of the National Security Council, Eiland deal with the most important strategic issues that Israel faces. He worked in concert with the country's leaders, doing the groundwork for them and observing them at close range when they made the most significant decisions of the past decade. For this reason, the harsh conclusions he has come to regarding the behavior of Israel's political-military leadership are worrisome.

Eiland makes note of a fascinating fact: that every prime minister in the past generation who initiated a foreign policy move was swept into a process with unexpected results. Menachem Begin never imagined that he would cede all of Sinai and "establish" the Palestinian homeland; Yitzhak Rabin never imagined that he would effectively create a "Yasser Arafat state"; and Ehud Barak never imagined that he would agree to give back 95 percent of the West Bank, as well as the Temple Mount.

According to the outgoing national security advisor, Ariel Sharon, similarly, did not presume that the limited unilateral measure that he initiated would turn into a comprehensive unilateral one. The unilateralist strategy was never accepted by Sharon, Eiland argues. Had Sharon remained prime minister, he would not be proceeding toward a convergence plan a la Ehud Olmert. Even in his final days as prime minister, Sharon viewed a withdrawal to the 1967 borders as a disaster.




In Eiland's view, therefore, the pattern that is emerging is fascinating: One after another, Israeli prime ministers release the genie from the bottle in the belief that they can tame it, but quickly discover that it is the genie that is taming them. What was thought to be reversible turns out to be irreversible. What was planned as a limited operation becomes comprehensive. The moment the ship leaves the harbor without a compass, without a clear destination and without a proper map of the ocean, the strong currents in the international realm exercise their own will upon it. They mock each Israeli leader in his turn, and sweep his ship into remote and hazardous quarters.

Eiland has an explanation for the repetition of this pattern of foreign policy failure: It is because Israel has no organized strategic management method. There's no system, he says. There is no critical examination of fundamental assumptions. There is no systematic definition of goals and targets. There is too much reliance on intuition. There is a strong tendency toward improvisation and instant solutions. There is no attempt at beginning-to-end planning. The opposite is true: There is great pressure to reach the finish line quickly without wasting precious time on forethought.

And the result? A questionable decision-making process with regard to the definition of the disengagement. A complete lack of decision-making with regard to the declarations on the convergence. A serious foreign policy failure vis-a-vis Iran's nuclear program. The Hamas election surprise and a refusal to confront its significance. A country that is run like a shtetl, not a state. A country where every medium-sized company is managed more responsibly than the state itself.

The conclusion is clear: The basic law of the Israeli-Palestinian jungle is that an Israeli withdrawal does not diminish the conflict, but instead exacerbates it. Since any Israeli withdrawal is interpreted by the Palestinians as surrender, it increases their appetite to obtain additional surrenders. The result is not stability, but violence, which under the conditions of the end of the occupation, is liable to become extreme.

Eiland is not the first to voice criticism along these lines. He was preceded by Ephraim Levy. He was preceded by Uzi Dayan. They were preceded by most of the important people who preceded them on the command bridge of the Israeli ship of state. But these are not normal times. The decisions that Israel must make in the course of the next year are not ordinary. They are fateful decisions, unlike any that Israel has taken since the decision concerning the Dimona nuclear facility half a century ago. Therefore, this time the harsh comments of the outgoing head of the NSC must not be ignored. His remarks must be taken seriously. They deserve public debate. They must be examined and they must lead to a plan of action.

Ehud Olmert and his chief of staff Yoram Turbowicz have permitted a very important public servant to resign. That's their right. But the parting words of this principled public servant must not be ignored. Eiland leaves behind him a challenge to the ruling ideological paradigm. He leaves behind him a series of warnings about the future. But above all, Eiland has commanded us to think. For their sake and for all of our sake, Olmert and Turbowicz must take on that command. The command to think now, to think before it is too late.

Facing down Israel's defeatist leaders

Sunday Palestinian Hamas Authority Foreign Minister Mahmoud Zahar was in
Teheran meeting with his boss, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Ahmadinejad reportedly devoted the meeting to reminding Zahar that jihad is
the only path for the Palestinians, and demanding that Hamas redouble its
attacks against Israel.

This report tells us little we don't already know about Hamas and Iran.
Since last year, Hamas leaders Zahar and Khaled Mashaal have been traveling
to Iran to meet with Ahmadinejad and commanders of Iranian intelligence and
the Iranian Revolutionary Guards units on a monthly, twice-monthly and even
weekly basis.

This meeting merely served to remind us what has been clear for months,
namely, that Iran today is the leader of the global jihadist axis. More
interesting than the meeting is how Iran and Hamas's chief enemies - the
United States and Israel - have responded to the war the Iranian-led
jihadist axis is waging against them. Two words aptly describe the Bush
administration and the Olmert government's responses to the escalating war.
They are respectiveLY: appeasement and capitulation.
The Bush administration's decision to negotiate directly with Iran over the
genocidal mullocracy's race to achieve nuclear capabilities represents the
White House's clearest renunciation of everything that President George W.
Bush claims to have been fighting against since the September 11 attacks.

The Iranian regime, with its openly stated intention to annihilate Israel;
its active participation in the war against US-led forces in Iraq; its
support and sponsorship of other terror forces fighting US forces in Iraq
and Afghanistan; its active subversion of pro-Western regimes throughout the
Middle East; its support for anti-US regimes and political forces throughout
the world; and its race to acquire intercontinental ballistic missiles
capable of attacking the continental US, represents everything that Bush
pledged to bring down in the aftermath of the attacks on the US five years
ago.

THERE HAVE been many attempts to rationalize, justify and excuse the move.
Some say it is a result of political distress. It is hard to see why Bush
would think that attempting to appease America's worst enemy will placate
his political support base. But more important than the reasons for his
policy reversal are the content and consequences of his new position.
In providing an opening to Teheran, the Bush administration has adopted the
policy that former president Jimmy Carter forced down the throat of the
Clinton administration in its dealings with the North Korean Stalinists in
1994. Twelve years ago, Carter invited himself to North Korea to "defuse"
the crisis the North Koreans had fomented by openly developing nuclear
weapons. Since then-president Bill Clinton had no policy for dealing with
North Korea, he allowed Carter to negotiate the deal that Bush is now
offering Teheran. As then, today in exchange for a "pledge" to stop
enriching uranium, the US is willing to give Teheran nuclear fuel,
airplanes, spare parts, light water reactors, World Trade Organization
membership and US acceptance of the mullocracy as a legitimate regime.

There can be no doubt that Carter's deal effectively caused the US to
facilitate North Korea's development of nuclear weapons. And now, after
refusing for five years to adopt an Iran policy, Bush has been convinced by
the likes of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to follow the Europeans'
lead in appeasing the mullahs.

For all that the nuclearized Pyongyang threatens its neighbors, North Korea
is still less dangerous than Iran. Unlike Pyongyang, Teheran sees itself as
a contender for global supremacy. It has terror cells all over the globe
capable of striking Western targets at a moment's notice. Aside from that,
Iran has already committed itself to using the nuclear bombs it is now
building to destroy Israel and bring America and Europe to their knees.

AFTER RICE announced Washington's adoption of the EU's appeasement policy,
Iran wasted no time repeatedly humiliating America. Last Thursday
Ahmadinejad bragged that the US offer showed America had been defeated. The
IAEA revealed that since the US made the offer, Iran intensified its uranium
enrichment operation. The Sunday Telegraph reported that Iran has yet
another secret nuclear site which is dedicated to military grade uranium
enrichment.

To all this President Bush has responded with more appeasement. He says that
Iran has weeks to decide whether to accept the US offer. The administration
is backing Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Richard Lugar's
refusal to bring an Iran sanctions bill - already passed overwhelmingly in
the House of Representatives and sponsored by 61 senators - to a vote. So
rather than fighting Iran, the administration is fighting its most loyal
supporters while advancing the policy of its most ardent detractors.

THE OLMERT government in Jerusalem similarly refuses to recognize that a war
is being actively waged against Israel. Olmert's refusal to accept the
reality of war is even more unjustifiable than the Bush administration's
because while Americans haven't been attacked where they live since
September 11, every day Israelis are attacked in their homes.

Against the backdrop of the intensification of the Palestinian rocket
attacks on southern Israel, Sderot's Mayor Eli Moyal showed the absurdity of
the government's willful blindness when Sunday he presented Olmert with the
only choice he has. As Moyal put it, Olmert can continue to ignore the war
and so turn the bombarded town of Sderot into a ghost town, or he can fight
the war and turn Beit Hanoun in Gaza - from which the rockets raining down
on Sderot and surrounding communities are being launched - into a ghost
town. That is, it is us or them, as simple as that.

To this the government responded with denial and surrender declarations.
Olmert and his equally inexperienced, weak-kneed, ideologically blinded
Defense Minister Amir Peretz and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni claim that
they are sending Hamas a clear signal by doing nothing. And what are they
signaling? That if Hamas doesn't shape up, Israel will give it Judea and
Samaria and parts of Jerusalem.

AS TO Iran, according to a report over the weekend in The Forward, in his
recent meetings with the American Jewish leadership, Olmert urged them to
lower their profile on Iran because his government doesn't want the issue to
be perceived as an Israeli issue. And so, most Jewish groups, including
AIPAC, have not publicly criticized the administration's adoption of
Europe's appeasement policy. As Jess Hordes, the Anti-Defamation Leagues
Washington affairs director, told the Forward, "Looking down the abyss at
the choices, which, in their starkest terms, are either accepting Iran as a
nuclear power or attacking militarily, I think people are looking to see
whether or not a third way can be found to achieve the same purpose."

By the same token, Israeli diplomats in New York and Washington have
admitted that their activities today are largely dedicated to convincing
American Jewish leaders to support the Olmert plan to surrender Judea and
Samaria to Hamas.
In 1943 when the evidence of the destruction of European Jewry became
incontrovertible, some strident Zionists in the US - most notably Peter
Bergson and Ben Hecht - launched a massive campaign to try to force the
Roosevelt administration to do something to save the Jews of Europe. The
organized Jewish leadership, led by Steven Wise, did everything it could to
delegitimize their efforts. According to the copiously documented account of
these events in Rafael Medoff's history, Militant Zionism in America, Wise,
like the leaders of the Labor Zionist movement, didn't want the war to be
seen as a Jewish issue and didn't want to alienate the White House by crying
out too loudly for European Jews.

Today, as Iran moves closer to committing a second Holocaust, how are
American Jewish organizations spending their time? Aside from supporting the
administration and the Olmert government, leading American Jewish
organizations including the Conference of Presidents of Major American
Jewish Organizations, the Anti-Defamation League, the Jewish Federation of
New York and the Joint Distribution Committee have joined forces with the
far-left New Israel Fund and announced their intention to fund Israeli Arab
organizations.

There is no doubt that as the leadership of Israel and the US lose their
collective will to reconcile themselves to the reality of war, it falls on
the shoulders of private citizens to tell them that they are wrong. Iran has
been at war with the US and Israel since 1979 and today it has a leadership
committed to advancing this war by destroying Israel and bringing America to
its knees. In light of this danger, and in view of the clear lessons of the
Holocaust, it is an act of cowardice and immorality for those who recognize
the dangers to take a back seat to leaders who refuse to stand up for their
countries.

As Moyal said, it is time to face the facts. There is no middle way. You
cannot nuance genocidal foes bent on your destruction and defeat.

BEAT THE MASHIACH RUSH

Question:
If it is such a clear mitzvah to dwell in the Land of Israel, why do so many religious Jews live in America? I've asked around and was told that the obligation to live in Israel will only apply when the Mashiach (Messiah) comes and brings us there. What is your response?

Answer:
The very special relationship between the Jewish People and the Land of Israel was made clear with G-d's very first words to Abraham: "Get yourself forth to the Land that I will show you."[1]

The Ramban writes that the commandment to settle the Land of Israel is one of the 613 mitzvot of the Torah.[2] He bases this on the language of the Biblical verse, "And you shall dispossess the inhabitants of the Land and dwell in it."[3] We are enjoined with two tasks: first to conquer the Land, and secondly to dwell in it. The Ramban states that this mitzvah (commandment) applies in every generation. Furthermore, all of the early and later Torah authorities (Rishonim and Achronim) who formulate Halacha agree on this matter.[4]

In his sweeping Halachic (Jewish legal) compilation, the Mishna Torah,[5] the Rambam quotes the Talmud: "In all times, a Jew should live in the Land of Israel, even in a city where most of the inhabitants are idol worshippers, and not live outside of the Land, even in a city where most of the inhabitants are Jews."[6]

Our Sages stated that the mitzvah of living in the Land of Israel is equal to all of the commandments of the Torah combined.[7]

These weeks, in the weekly Parsha readings in the Book of Deuteronomy, we are being treated to an explanation of the Torah by Moses himself, as it says:
"Moses began to explain this Torah, saying, The L-rd our G-d spoke to us in Horev, saying, You have dwelt long enough in this mountain.."[8]
The time has come to journey on into Israel, Moses teaches. The Torah is to be kept in Eretz (the Land of) Yisrael, not in the wilderness.[9]

Again and again, Moses emphasizes this fundamental principle upon which all of the Torah rests:

"Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the L-rd my G-d commanded me, that you should perform them in the Land whither you go to possess."[10]


"And the L-rd commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that you may perform them in the Land which you go over to possess."[11]


"But as for thee, stand here by Me, and I will speak to thee all of the commandments and statutes and judgments which thou shall teach them, that they may do them in the Land which I gave them to possess."[12]


"Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the judgments which the L-rd thy G-d commanded me to teach you, that you might do them in the Land into which you go to possess."[13]


"All the commandments which I command you this day shall you observe to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the Land which the L-rd swore to your fathers."[14]

The commandments were given to be performed specifically in the Land of Israel, as the Ramban states:
"The essence of all of the commandments is that they be performed in the Land of G-d."[15]

Understanding the centrality of Eretz Yisrael to Torah and G-d's plans for the Jewish People, we can appreciate the enormity of the Sin of the Spies for not wanting to live in Israel. The Zohar teaches that the Spies, who were the princes of Israel, were worried about their honor. They feared that upon entering the Land, new leaders would be chosen, and they would lose their positions of authority and prestige.[16] As was highlighted in last week's answer by the words of the Gaon of Vilna, this failure to put Eretz Yisrael in the forefront of Jewish life continues tragically until today.[17]

Regarding your question regarding Mashiach, a Jew is called upon to fulfill the commandments whether Mashiach has arrived or not. As the Rambam writes:
"The obligation of the commandments is not dependent on the coming of Mashiach. Rather we are to busy ourselves with Torah and its precepts, and to strive to fulfill everything we can. However, if a man remains in a place where he sees that the Torah is waning, and where the Jewish People will be lost with the passage of time, and where he cannot stay true to his faith, and say. 'I will stay here until Mashiach comes and survive where I am,' this is nothing but an evil heart and a great loss, and a sickness of reasoning and spirit."[18]

Today, thank G-d, the Land of Israel is once again the thriving heart of the Jewish People. Jerusalem is once again the Torah center of the world. While there are many great challenges and problems in returning an exiled people to its ancestral homeland, Jewish life in Israel continues to grow in a miraculous fashion. So if you want to fulfill the mitzvah of waiting for Mashiach, the best place to do it is Israel.

May the words of the Prophet soon be fulfilled:
"The L-rd G-d who gathers the outcasts of Israel says, 'Yet I will gather others to him, besides those of him who are already gathered.'"[19]

Last night some 200,000 people stood in the streets between the Knesset and the Prime Minister's office, ostensibly demanding either elections or a national referendum as a prerequisite to implementation of Sharon's expulsion policy. "Let the nation decide!"



In all actuality though, the mass gathering screamed to the heavens: please - stop this madness.



The Yesha Council did a good job getting people out, but part of the message they espoused was disappointing. As reported by Israel National News, "Yesha officials called on the crowd to reject calls for the refusal of orders in the IDF, stressing such a move would destroy the military. They also decried the raising of a hand against soldiers, police, and border police, setting the ground rules for a tough fight, but one that does not cross the lines of a law-abiding society."



What's the problem with these points? They show a complete and total misunderstanding of how to lead opposition to Sharon's plans. They suggest that we 'play by the rules,' - not Sharon's rules, rather those established by a normal society. However, Sharon is not playing by those rules: he's devising his own rules as the game progresses, doing whatever he wants, however he wants. The fact that he has totally reversed his own campaign promises, the fact that he is now implementing the policies voiced by his opponent, Amram Mitzne, who was thoroughly trounced in the last election, the fact that he ignored a supposedly binding Likud referendum as well as a vote of the Likud Central Committee, the fact that he refuses to go to the people because he is scared that he might actually lose, the fact that he is conducting a massive campaign to delegitimize the same people he once regarded as heroes, that fact that he is returning to the one-way street called Oslo, leading to an inevitable head-on collision we've already experienced, again and again and again, with over 1,500 fatalities and thousands of casualties, the fact that according to Deputy Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Minister Meir Shitrit, not to mention Peres and all the other poodles presently serving as ministers under Sharon, the expulsion and destruction of Gush Katif and the northern Shomron communities is only the beginning - the remainder of communities of Judea and Samaria are on line for the guillotine - all these facts, and many more, clearly establish two sets of rules: one for Sharon and one for everyone else.



Two examples: During my interview with David Bedein last week, he revealed that police invaded homes of Sderot residents, warning and threatening them not to protest during a governmental visit to the city - this despite continued missile attacks and fatalities there.



And last night, buses on the way to the demonstration were randomly stopped and 'searched' - what did the police expect to find - child suicide bombers? One of the buses was stopped a few kilometers outside Jerusalem, on the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem road, and the search crew took its time looking for hard, criminal evidence against its passengers. Losing patience, the travelers left the bus and started walking down the middle of the highway - 'if you won't let us drive, we'll go by foot.' All traffic came to a stop and the police caught the message fast. Soon the bus was on its way into Jerusalem.



This second incident provides a good example of 'not playing by the rules' - and it works. This is what the Yesha Council has yet to learn. If we continue to 'play by the rules' we are bound to lose.



First and foremost on the list of 'our rules' is refusal to obey orders to evict families from their homes. The claim that refusal to obey orders will destroy the army is a moot point. Why? Because what good is an army without a land to defend? It is the declared intent of many members of the current government, in conjunction with the United States, Russia, Europe and the United Nations, to dismember Eretz Yisrael. Forget George W. - Sharon has, time and time again, declared his allegiance to the 'roadmap,' a plan leading to the disintegration of the State of Israel and the rise of the State of Palestine, G-d forbid. We will not have to worry about whether or not our soldiers obey orders in the future; should they refuse, there will be foreign forces here to do the work for them. So states the 'roadmap!'



True, under ordinary circumstances, refusal to obey orders should and would be viewed as virtually unthinkable. However, our lives, privately and collectively, are ruled by priorities: in this case, without Eretz Yisrael, our armed forces are unnecessary - Eretz Yisrael certainly takes priority over a dictator's decree. I have difficulty comprehending why the leaders of the Yesha council do not understand this.



You know, last week everyone was making a big whop-de-do about the events marking the sixtieth anniversary of the liberation of Aushwitz. This too, I had trouble fathoming. Speeches in the UN, a memorial to the slaughtered, singing HaTikava, our national anthem, it didn't move me.



Why not?



Many times, during meetings with correspondents from around the world, I tell them: "There is much we must learn from the Holocaust. One of the main lessons I have learned is from the refusal of the allied forces, including Britain and the United States, to bomb the camps and stop the mass murders. This taught me that the United States and Europeans were basically telling us, in other words, 'we don't want you here.' For had they valued Jewish lives, they would not have allowed the Nazis to continue exterminating them, by the millions.



So, what did Jews do? They came to live in Eretz Yisrael and established the State of Israel. Now, we are being told that we cannot continue to live in our land - and the same people who refused to stop the Nazi extermination are leading the call to expel us from our homeland.



So, I ask the reporters, where do they want us to go - they don't want us in their countries, but they refuse to allow us to live with security in our own land - so where should we go?"



The journalists look at me with a blank stare and, as a rule, do not respond.



My problem with the 60th anniversary events is exactly that - why did it take SIXTY YEARS for the nations of the world to stand up and recognize, in some manner, what they were responsible for. The proceedings at the UN should not have taken sixty years to occur. They should have taken place annually since the founding of the organization.



More significantly, in my opinion, in truth, Aushwitz has not been liberated. We are still there, behind barbed wire fences, being led like sheep to the crematorium. Then, the Jews had little recourse - there was no IDF, there was no State of Israel. But today there is. Yet, we are continuing to be led by the nose, by the same peoples who assisted, either actively or passively, with the Nazi extermination machine sixty years ago. The massive world attempt to force us to rid ourselves of our land is certainly nothing less than Aushwitz - because the world still does not recognize the legitimate, G-d-given right of our people to our land. There really is no doubt: Gush Katif will lead to Beit El and Shilo, and they will lead to Hebron and Hebron will lead to Jerusalem. Tel Aviv and Haifa are only a matter of time. That is the way they see it - those who refused to destroy Aushwitz - they are the same people, the same cultures, the same mentality. They haven't changed. And it seems, neither have we. We still haven't learned.



This past Shabbat morning, sitting in Ma'arat HaMachpela, I listened as we read in the Torah, the Ten Commandments. It is normally a very spiritually uplifting experience, especially at such a holy place. But this year, hearing the ancient words chanted, I couldn't help but think, what about the eleventh commandment. Why have we forgotten the eleventh commandment? Why don't we remember - we are we so good at forgetting? Again, meetings between Dachlan and Mufaz, Abu Mazen and Sharon, terrorist prisoner releases, pulling the army out of the 'cities, ' the same show we've seen so many times before. And we know what the results will be.



The Eleventh Commandment: Never Forget.
